I haven’t been able to run for 3 days due to unforeseen emergency issues, so today’s run was both to feel me out, and clear my head. I love running, there’s nothing like it to manage a stressful situation and put a troubled mind at ease.
It’s now starting to get pretty hot in SoCal, so I’ve been wanting to run earlier since my last 5Miler on Day 208 was 73 degrees F. Two or three Miles at that temperature are great, but 46 minutes was very difficult. With no shade, no clouds, no breeze, and a blistering bright sunshine, 5 Miles gets me dehydrated and hypoglycemic. Did I mention a parched throat, an intense thirst, and a radiator head?
This morning was a heavenly run at 54 degrees . It was bright again, no shade, not a cloud, not a breeze; but the temperature was refreshing and invigorating. I was concerned about running first thing in the morning because joints, tendons, muscles would not have the benefit of having moved throughout the day which in itself is a warm up.
As it turned out, the Achilles and Calf issues didn’t rear their ugly heads. I started throttled down and just worked again on form. The run felt so good, I wanted to run 5, but I settled for a cautionary 2.5, still half a mile longer than planned. I finished hyped and fired for my next run (I’m also known to think about my next meal while eating).
I’m going to adopt finishing all my runs anxious for the next, I think that’s a very healthy attitude to have to stay injury and burn out free. I’ll end all my runs feeling I have lots left, except for racing of course!
If the planets align and no outside issues crop up, I’m planning a 7-8 Mile run Wednesday morning at the Sepulveda Dam’s Lake Balboa. Early in the morning like 9am, and I promise I’ll go slow .
Thanks for reading, hope it helps your Journey, Claude.
